Tonsillitis Treatment
1. Home remedies:
Rest: Complete rest is recommended to help the body recover.
Gargling with salt water: helps relieve pain and soothe the throat.
Drinking warm fluids: such as tea with honey or soup, to maintain hydration and relieve discomfort.
Painkillers: such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to relieve pain and reduce fever.
2. Medical treatment:
Antibiotics: If tonsillitis is caused by a bacterial infection, the doctor may prescribe an antibiotic such as penicillin or amoxicillin. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage completely.
Antiviral: If tonsillitis is caused by a virus, antibiotics will not be effective, and the patient usually improves on his own after some time. Rest and fluid intake are recommended.
3. Surgical intervention:
Tonsillectomy: This surgery is resorted to in cases where tonsillitis recurs chronically (more than 5-7 times a year) or in case the tonsils are significantly enlarged, which hinders breathing or swallowing.
