The harms of cholesterol to the health of the body

High levels of cholesterol, especially harmful cholesterol (LDL), can lead to several serious health damages to the body, due to the accumulation of cholesterol in the walls of blood vessels, which narrows them and affects blood flow. The most prominent harms of cholesterol to the health of the body are:

Atherosclerosis: The accumulation of cholesterol in the walls of the arteries leads to their hardening, which reduces their elasticity and narrows the blood flow, which is known as atherosclerosis.

Heart disease: High cholesterol increases the risk of heart disease, especially heart attacks, as the accumulation of cholesterol can cause blockage of the coronary arteries that feed the heart.

Stroke: Blockage of the arteries feeding the brain can lead to a lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which may cause a stroke.

High blood pressure: The accumulation of cholesterol and hardening of the arteries can lead to increased pressure on the heart to pump blood, leading to high blood pressure.

Sexual dysfunction: Narrowing of the arteries may affect blood flow to the genitals, which can cause problems with sexual performance.

Kidney disease: If the arteries that supply the kidneys are affected, it may lead to deterioration of kidney function due to lack of oxygen and nutrition.
