Ways to follow a balanced diet without deprivation
1. Eat in moderation
The key here is balance: It’s okay to eat the foods you love, but in moderation. You don’t need to avoid sweets or favorite meals, but you can eat them in small quantities or every now and then.
Control portions: Use smaller plates to reduce food quantities or divide your meal in half if it’s large.
2. Eat nutrient-rich foods
Focus on eating nutrient-rich foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy proteins (such as fish, white meat, and nuts).
Make sure to include fiber in your diet through whole grains and vegetables, as fiber promotes satiety and helps reduce the desire for high-calorie foods.
3. Eat protein at every meal
Protein helps you feel full for longer periods and reduces the desire to eat fast food.
You can include protein from multiple sources such as lean meats, poultry, eggs, fish, legumes, and nuts.
4 .Choose healthy fats
Fat is not your enemy, but you have to choose the right type. Unsaturated fats such as olive oil, avocados, and nuts are essential for heart and artery health, and promote a feeling of fullness.
Avoid saturated and trans fats found in processed and fried foods.
5. Diversify your diet
Try to diversify the foods in your diet so you don’t get bored. Eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains gives you a mix of essential vitamins and minerals.
Trying new recipes and cooking foods in different colors enhances your feeling of excitement about eating.
6. Achieve a balance between healthy and favorite foods
A balanced diet doesn’t mean completely avoiding the foods you love. You can eat balanced meals most of the time, but allow yourself to have a favorite meal or an unhealthy meal from time to time, so that it becomes a small part of your diet and not the basis of it.
7. Avoid depriving yourself completely
Severely depriving yourself of a certain type of food can lead to intense cravings for it and excessive consumption later. Allowing yourself to eat small amounts of it reduces this craving and prevents the feeling of deprivation.
Eating chocolate or sweets in small amounts can be part of a healthy diet, as long as it is done in moderation.
